EDI: a definition?
Electronic data interchange (EDI) is the structured transmission of data between organizations by electronic means. It is used to transfer business transactions, such as orders, confirmations and invoices, from one computer system to another, without human intervention.
EDI at Rf-Technologies is implemented with international customers at several levels:
• Order intake: your “purchase order” is sent from your ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system to ours where it is turned into a “sales order”.
• Order confirmation: automatically updates your system once the order has been checked and confirmed by our customer service team.
• Despatch advice: facilitates the receiving of goods and the invoice check by updating the quantity of goods that are released.
• Invoices: can also be sent directly to your ERP to facilitate their treatment.
Benefits of EDI
Choosing for EDI to transmit commercial information can deliver following benefits in a relatively short term:
• Decrease administration time
• Decrease the risk of errors due to retyping the data
• Integrate business through automatic system updates, resulting in improved planning of delivery
EDI with Rf-Technologies: something for you?
Rf-Technologies has already established EDI links with a number of international partners and suppliers. Based on this expertise, we can quite easily implement a switch to EDI with new partners. EDI messages can be encoded in various formats: ASCII, Edifact, XML, while additional formats can be envisaged upon request. The files can then be communicated between ERP systems through various communication channels: email, FTP server, official providers or other web services provided by third parties.
